Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?I fondly remember playing little league baseball. It was one of the first times I remember trying so hard to achieve a goal. I practiced so much and played my best because I wanted us to win.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why? It's tough to choose between my parents. They're both very determined, tenacious people. They certainly have their shortcomings, but I think that inherent drive is the best thing they've ever given me.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire empathy. The modern world can feel very disconnected, and media tends to focus on glorifying a self-centered mindset. I really admire people who still think of others, as well as understanding their feelings and helping them.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?The first girl I dated really liked these cinnamon rolls from a local bakery. So, on Valentine’s Day, I got her one and gave it to her at school. She was really happy and after she finished, I said, "Actually, surprise, I got you a second one!" which I thought was a great surprise because they were really small, and she often said she wished they were bigger. Nope. She said I was implying she was fat and dumped me. I was heartbroken then, but I have to admit it's pretty funny looking back.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?Europe's high on my list. I love how walkable the cities are, along with the ubiquity of railway travel. I do miss Alaska sometimes; I don't think many people know how beautiful it is up there.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? This is a tough one. I think everyone wants the best for their kids. I think, ultimately, the best things I could give would be health and gratitude. You simply can't put a price on your health, and without gratitude, you'll never feel like you have enough.
