Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?I remember so many things from my childhood that it is difficult to pick just one. I'd say one of the best memories I have occurred at an Army National Guard Christmas party when I was five years old. My sister and I made two new friends at the party. They were sisters, just a little younger than me and my sister. My dad was just becoming friends with their dad. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact details past that point, but it will always be one of my most memorable moments, especially since those two friends are still in my life today.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I'd say I identify most with my sister. Since we are close in age we've always been around each other. As a result we have a special rapport.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?Above all I admire honesty; second would be determination, with loyalty a close third.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Shortly after I joined the military, I was at the Tae Kwon Do studio and an instructor's son, a little Vietnamese boy about eight years old, looked up at me with the biggest grin on his face and asked me "Are you gonna die!?" At that point, I had no idea how to respond and just had to look into his beaming face and stutter out "Uh... I hope not." Of course this caused everyone else to just go up into a roar of laughter as well.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I'd travel to Germany. Although I grew up not knowing much about my own family's past, I know I come from predominantly German origins, so I would love to visit and take in the culture there.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I want to pass on a strong sense of what it means to be honest, determined and loyal. I feel like qualities such as these could only garner them respect and admiration from their peers.
