Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?I grew up in modest conditions and more emphasis was placed on experiences than on things. I can fondly remember the first time I got a Best Junior Handler award at a dog show, the first catch I made for a score in high school football, winning district awards in interscholastic academic competitions, my first "in love" feeling, graduating high school and vacationing when I was nine years old.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why? This is a hard question to answer because there are three, all of which are in my immediate family. My mom, because our personalities and experiences are very similar; my sister, since we are close in age and shared many things; and my dad, who wasn't biologically my dad, but fit the bill in every other way.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire honesty first and foremost. I believe in never having to guess what the other person is thinking or doing. I get along better with people like that. After that, intelligence is high on the list, along with an outgoing personality.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?The college I attended needed once to till the ground in a part of the campus. We in the student government persuaded them to allow a recreational football game to be played on the tilled and water-sprayed down field. It was a wet, muddy football game. I was quarterback, and on one play I scrambled out and my shorts, heavy with water and mud, slid down. An opponent reached for my flag and grabbed my underwear instead. Like the flag, my underwear ripped off, exposing my rump. I ran fifty yards for a touchdown in that rather exposed state.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?My primary destination would be traditional cities. In the US, that would be cities like New York, Boston, Chicago or San Francisco. Abroad, London, Paris, Moscow, Berlin, Toronto or Rome.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I have one kid now and another on the way. I hope to give my children a sense of humor, honesty, and knowledge of the difference between right and wrong. All of those are strong points for me and I hope that they have that. From a physical standpoint, I hope they have my metabolism and height. Both of those have advantages.
