Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience would have to be the vacation my family took to Arizona and Nevada. I was six or seven years old and it was the first vacation I can remember that I took with my parents and two older brothers. Although the sights of the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas were breathtaking, the part about the trip that was most memorable was getting to experience the journey with my family. We spent some nights in luxurious hotels and some nights in motels that probably should have been condemned. We went on a family vacation every year after that first trip.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?The family member I most closely identify with is my father. He has introduced me to many of the hobbies and interests I participate in today, and now that I am older I am able to share those interests with him. We play an occasional tennis match or round of golf when our schedules permit. We also share a love of history and often trade books that we find interesting.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? Two character traits I admire most in an individual are perseverance and a strong work ethic. I believe that some of life's greatest experiences stem from overcoming adversity and that life can be rather dull when everything is handed to you.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Perhaps the funniest thing ever to happen to me was when I went to a show put on by the entertainer known as Gallagher. If you're not familiar with his act, it consists of him telling jokes and smashing watermelons with a sledge hammer. I was lucky enough to be chosen to make a fool out of myself in front of the entire crowd. I was younger then and hardly able to lift the sledge hammer, so my aim was slightly off. It was slightly embarrassing but I wound up having a great time and it was a very memorable show.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If time and money were not an issue I would take a trip to the Far East to visit countries like Japan, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. It would be exciting to immerse myself in completely different cultures with such rich histories and varying traditions. I also enjoy trying different types of food and would be open to trying the local cuisine.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I am lucky to have a beautiful and healthy young daughter. If I could pass anything on to my daughter, it would be an appreciation for family and a loving environment like the one that I was raised in. Having made and lost countless friends and relationships over the years I have come to realize that there is nothing more important than family and I hope my daughter can appreciate that as well.
