Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? When I was younger, I loved nothing more than to go to amusement parks and ride roller coasters. Knowing this, my dad, as a birthday present, decided to drive me to an amusement park that had a very high, fast roller coaster. So my dad, a good friend and I all had a great time from open to close trying to ride as many of the rides as we could.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify with my dad. We both have the same approach to life: to work as hard and get as much out of every situation as possible. We are both dreamers who have a firm foundation in the practical. We both have strong (sometimes stubborn) determination when we aim to achieve something.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire integrity, perseverance, honesty, a willingness to work, a willingness to follow inspiration, courage, patience, and a desire to seek truth. I would like to say more, but everything else stems from those things.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? This is a tough question. I'm not sure if it is because there are many or few. One thing that I thought was particularly funny happened in Thailand, where a taxi driver brought us to a mall because my companions wanted to buy clothes. It turned out that the mall was an extremely high class place. We were poor foreign exchange students being offered $2000 diamond necklaces (because we were white westerners) and all we could do was shrug and run through the place while the sales people chased us. It was both funny and extremely awkward.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel to Australia. It is one of the few places I can't imagine going to otherwise. It is difficult to go somewhere nowadays without some level of justification. I have a friend or two in Australia and I would like to visit them. Also, the continent is a beautiful place that is full of adventure.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I'm not very sentimental when if comes to heirlooms. I more strongly believe that ideas are the best inheritance. One idea that I would like them to carry is that integrity pays off, even if it takes years or even decades to see it. Also, I would like them to know that truth isn't subjective; it is something that can be observed through patience and an honest look at the world.
