Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? When I was very young, my father was in a near-fatal parachuting accident and was forced to retire from the Army. Though still debilitated he began law school and was consumed by his studies. I remember one day when he and my brother took time out of their day to play nerf guns with me. It is still possibly my fondest memory of them.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify most with my brother. He is 9 years my senior, divorced, a college graduate, and makes 5 times as much money as I do. Nevertheless, I see every day how similar we are, good and bad. I do not wish to be him, however I do admire aspects of his character and strive to emulate them.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire honesty, courage, intelligence, humility, power, and resourcefulness. A person who conserves their strength, someone who is kind, a person who seeks to grow and improve and yet does not boast about their journey.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I honestly cannot recall a single thing that has happened to me that would make me laugh right now. There are plenty of things that were funny in the moment, like funny comments made, usually to or from my older brother. But none of them would really make sense, let alone be funny, being retold years later in text. Maybe the time when I was playing Monopoly with my family and, with 10 dollars left I incurred a $1400 debt. I went on to give a 20-minute speech and take an additional 5 minutes to "calculate" that I had lost.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If time and money truly were not an issue, I think I would love to go to Israel. I made some friends abroad that were from Israel, and it just sounds so beautiful and exciting. I think the best way to do it would be to walk south to north over a few months. Walking has always been my favorite mode of exploration (though it takes a while.)
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I hope to pass on fortitude, both mental and physical. It’s a harsh world, and though the bad people are probably outnumbered, they make up for it in utter cruelty. I would like to see to it that my children do not suffer their wrath.
