What is your most memorable childhood experience?Little league baseball. I was in my glory playing baseball as a child. I was a very effective ballplayer and enjoyed success particularly as a child. I was an only child and my involvement with baseball was probably essential for me socially.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My mother. My mother was instrumental in helping me build core qualities and she was extremely supportive of me as I tried to find myself in my youth and adolescence. She is not a person without fault, but she has a big heart and I have a great respect for her journey and appreciation of our relationship.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I try to appreciate folks for who they are and embrace their differences. I would like to think that I can have some level of admiration for all character traits, even ones that appear to be undesirable on the surface. With that being said, I have the strongest admiration for people who are trustworthy, caring, and respectful.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I attended a New York Rangers hockey game with my stepfather when I was about nine years old. We had great seats down by the boards and he spotted Ranger great Rod Gilbert in our section, and prompted me to go over and ask for his autograph. Not knowing who Rod Gilbert was, I walked over to who I now believe to have been his son, asking for his autograph. He politely told me I probably had the wrong guy, and that I was really looking for the older gentleman sitting next to him. Rod was kind and obliged for the autograph which I still have to this day, and we all had a good laugh about it.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel the world in its entirety if time and money were not an issue. I would probably start by the sea, navigating island chains, and then I'd look to explore Europe. Then the savannas of Africa, at which point I'd return to the US to explore our own land in full and map out the rest of my plans.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to pass on to them integrity, morality and purpose. My most sincere hope is that they have the opportunity to find themselves and make their way through life in a way that they find fulfilling, using integrity, morality and purpose as guiding principles.
