Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience was when I would join my extended family for a week every summer at my uncle's ranch in the countryside. During this week we would fish, play games, canoe the nearby river and go hiking. Getting away from suburban life and spending time with my extended family was a treasure which I will always hold dear.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I most closely identify with my mother. Our personalities are the most similar and I can always count on her to be caring and thoughtful. She is somebody I can look up to and strive to match her values.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I most admire honesty, a sense of humor, kindness and understanding.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I'm always reminded of a story when I was a kid around five or six. I got in trouble for calling my sister a dufus and was grounded for some time. As some way of proving to my mom that I didn't mean anything bad by it I went up to strangers at a grocery store and told them all that I was a dufus and there's nothing wrong with that.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel across Japan. I have always been fascinated by the unique culture of Japan and the variety of the landscapes from ski villages in the north, through the metropolises in the middle, to the islands in the south. I am interested in learning about Eastern religions and would love more of a chance to learn about them firsthand in Japan.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to pass on to them the values I have learned and would like to share with them a vision of what is possible. I would like for them to live meaningful and sustainable lives and would do my best to give them the tools to achieve this.
