Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience is my first official basketball game. I've always loved playing basketball, and I still do, to this day. So, when I finally got my mom to sign me up for a real team, it was my dream come true. In my first game, I scored the most points. My family was in the stands watching and it felt like I was one of the basketball stars that I admired on television. I will always regret the fact that I didn't play official basketball like that later in my life.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I closely identify with my nineteen year-old sister. We have a lot of similar interests and she is one of my best friends. We play video games together, watch our favorite shows together, and we both play guitar and bass guitar. She has more in common with me than most of my regular friends.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? The character trait that I admire most in an individual is hard-working. I admire it because it is what I wish I were. I am not the worst slacker, and I do believe that I'll be successful, but with my aspirations and abilities I should be doing so much more. My character traits are probably fully shaped by this point in life, but I hope that hard-working is one trait that I can still develop.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?The funniest thing to ever happen to me happened when I was taking my girlfriend to get her car tire fixed via my own car. After waiting for the work to be done, the mechanic asked me if I wanted the other tire fixed, too. I had no idea what he was talking about until he pointed out the window and showed me that my own tire had gone completely flat. I guess I ran over something while parking, but it was not like that when I left. However, at least I had a flat tire in the best possible place - a tire shop. It certainly wasn't funny when it originally happened, but looking back on the irony now, it is.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If time and money were not an issue, I would travel to Japan. I want to visit Japan because I became enamored with the culture in my early adolescence. I listen to some Japanese music, watch Japanese television shows, and I'm trying to learn the language. If I were to go to Japan, I'd be able to experience those things first-hand. I would, hopefully, meet people whose culture consists of things that I want to hear, watch, and learn. I'd also be able to learn more of the language, just like when people study-abroad for that very purpose.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? When I have children, I would like my talents and grand aspirations to pass on to them. I say that because I want them to have the same opportunities as me. Then, whether their mother and I or another couple raise them, I hope they would receive the necessary motivation, love, and praise to help them achieve their goals in life. Nothing would make me happier than for my children to be able to do whatever they most want to do with their life.
