Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience is also one of my oldest. When I was six or seven, I fondly remember all of my family working together to build the largest, most elaborate play/tree house I had ever seen. This was one of the few times I can remember of all of my family working together productively toward a common goal. Those weeks of construction are my earliest memories of family bonding.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My sister and I have always had an incredibly close relationship. We were both born in a sort of odd time in our family, as all of our cousins were either much older or younger than us and tended to remain together. Therefore, my sister and I were usually paired up simply because of our ages. As a result, we became very close over the years. She is the one person in my family that I speak with almost every day.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?Above all else, I admire honesty in other individuals. I feel like any sort of decency and sincerity must stem from a deep sense of honesty ingrained within a person's being. Furthermore, a sense of compassion for one's fellow man is truly necessary. Being able to care for others, regardless of whether you know them or not, is an admirable quality that many people seem to lack.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Having grown up in a warmer climate, I was not prepared for the transition I would experience by moving north. During my first experience with a more-northern winter, I encountered severe ice and heavy snow for the first time. Under normal circumstances, this would not have been an issue. However, during my first year in a true winter, I happened to reside on the top floor of my apartment complex. Throughout the season, I would regularly slip and fall down the stairs on almost a daily basis. While I myself did not necessarily find the situation to be very humorous, others who witnessed my experiences seemed to be quite amused.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?Given the opportunity, I would travel across western Europe for an extended period of time. The culture and history of the region amazes me, and I would be overjoyed to travel across the entire continental region during one trip. Tracing history across the geography would be an incomparable experience.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I believe that the most important thing to pass on to my children would be the classic sense of courtesy and respect. I feel like this is truly dying out in our society, and the southern charm that used to be so enchanting in our society is disappearing. I would also hope to pass on a sense of wonder about the world. Being able to hold on to the youthful curiosity that typically dwindles away is truly a remarkable trait to carry forward.
