Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?I've had too many memorable childhood experiences to select just one; however one of my favorite things to do was to go to the drive-in with my grandmother who loved taking me to scary movie marathons. It was this exposure to scares, thrills and chills that fostered my early interest and later deep appreciation and love for film that I know will continue throughout my life.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why? This is a penetrating question that I'm not really sure how to answer. I have a wonderful family filled with independent and unique individuals. I don't closely identify with any of them. I admire and love them all but we are all comically different with differing aptitudes, viewpoints, beliefs, talents and interests.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I most admire individuals that are dependable, respectful, driven, thoughtful, courageous, adventurous, compassionate, loving, intelligent, humorous, articulate, generous, decisive, loyal, confident and charismatic.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?The funniest and most embarrassing thing that has happened to me was during a play in middle school when my toga fell apart in the middle of my dialogue near the end of first act, leaving me on stage to complete the dialogue in my underwear. Fortunately the wardrobe malfunction was quickly addressed during the next scene; however I didn't hear the end of it for the rest of the year. It was my first lesson in improvisation. Evidently my drama teacher felt I shouldn't have acted like nothing happened, and found a way to gracefully cover myself up. From that point on I've found a way to gracefully handle all future wardrobe malfunctions.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel the world. I've been fortunate enough to live in Seoul, South Korea and Moscow, Russia thus far. These experiences broadened my horizons, expanding my political and cultural understanding of these regions in a way that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. Next up would likely be Prague. Out of all the major cities in Europe, it was one of the only ones to be spared the horrific damage of World War II bombing raids. The architecture is some of the most beautiful and oldest in Europe.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would hope my children learn to treat others how they wish to be treated themselves, to have the courage to question authority, to defend what they believe in, to stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves, and to embrace education and make it a lifelong endeavor.
