What is your most memorable childhood experience?My most memorable childhood experience was a trip to visit my grandmother when I was 5 or 6. I got to fly for the first time. I went with my mom, and I remember that she gave me the window seat so that I could see.This visit is more memorable because I got to see my grandma, who was a really sweet person. There's a really great picture of me looking up at the sky that makes me remember the trip. I remember that my grandma had a boyfriend that drove a big white truck; he was a really cool guy. I loved the Mexican food we ate and all the places we visited.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify very closely with my mother because she and I get along very well. She was always great to me as a kid and taught me to respect people. She really cares about people and almost never gets mad or unreasonable, which is something I admire about her.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I really admire honesty, originality, flexibility, optimism, respect, and charity.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?When I lived in my old town, I stepped on a small concrete manhole cover and it flipped, sending my whole leg into the sewer. My pants split in the crotch and all up the back, and my pants leg was wet and stinky. These teenage girls were gigglingat me on the bus on the way back to my apartment, and I just had to laugh because it was such bad luck.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would go to Salvador, Brazil because I really want to visit there. I would like to improve my Portuguese a little more, the beaches there are great, and they say that the food is incredible. I really enjoyed Brazil when I went, but I visited the south and I would like to get to know the northeast. I would love to go back with my family. My kids want to learn Portuguese.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to pass on my love of travel and languages. I want to teach them to respect other people and their opinions. Basically I want them to know that they do not always have to be right. I want them to be confident, but not cocky or arrogant. I want them to contribute something to society.
