Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience would have to be playing "Red Commandos" with my two sisters. When I was younger my sisters and I would play a game, when we would act like commandos. My sisters had bunk beds and we would hang sheets over the side and hide on the bottom bunk. We acted like we were hiding from “bad guys." I loved playing that game and, even today, my sisters and I still laugh about it.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?The immediate family member that I closely identify with would have to be my father. I can’t deny how much I am like him and how close we are. Besides the looks, my father says that I am exactly like him when he was my age. Like I would assume most sons do the same, I identify with my dad because he’s my role model. I look up to him because he has always been there to help me out, mentor me, and put me before himself. When I was younger, I would always say that I wanted to be just like my dad, besides the bad looks, but he would return and say, “No, be better!” For the longest time, I didn’t understand what he was saying but now I understand the meaning. Without my father, I wouldn’t be the man that I am today.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? The character traits that I admire the most in a person are: honesty, courage, dependability, compassion, and optimism. I believe these traits are the most admirable because they each work together to build an overall great person. So one that doesn’t lie; one who will stand up for what he believes in even in the face of danger; someone you know will always be there for you, someone who is caring; and, finally, someone who always sees the positive side of things.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Sadly, the funniest thing that ever happened to me is also the most embarrassing. When I was in middle school, I was attending an assembly. My name was called to come on stage and, as I was walking up to the stage, I tripped and fell in front of the entire school. Everyone laughed at me and I felt so stupid. I was made fun of for the next couple of weeks, but I didn’t really care. I laughed about it myself and still do today. It’s odd, though, that my funniest moment is my most embarrassing too.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If I could go anywhere in the world, it would have to be Italy. With a more Italian influence from my family, I have a stronger connection to my Italian roots. I would like to visit where my family still lives and where we came from to better understand my heritage. I feel that I would have a better appreciation for who I am and where I came from by visiting Italy. As well as to find my roots, Italy isn’t too ugly of a place to visit. My father just visited there recently and said it was his best vacation.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?If and/or when I ever have children, I would like to pass on to them two different types of things: one material thing and one trait. The material thing that I would like to pass on is something that my father passed on to me from his father. My grandfather passed on a ring that belonged to him that was very important to him. My father passed it to me and said, “Keep this in the family, give it to your children.” For the trait that I would like to pass onto my children, it would have to be confidence and courage. These two traits, I believe are necessary to defeat any problem my children may have.
