Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable experience was probably my trip to Italy and Germany. We spent two weeks in my grandfather's house in the northern Italian countryside. I've always loved rural settings like this and I truly felt at home there. We spent a lot of time at the local shops and restaurants, and I really learned an appreciation for their culture. We later visited Munich, Germany. It was such a big city with so much going on that I could have stayed for months. Although we didn't spend as much time in Munich as we did in Italy, I still feel like I connected with my past here and overall, this trip was one of my most memorable experiences as a child.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify most closely with my mother. I feel like I share a lot of my personality with her, we have a very similar sense of humor and feel that we always get along. We both love the outdoors and I've always felt she has been a strong influence on me throughout my life.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire honesty and confidence in individuals. The ability for people to say exactly what they think about any topic and their ability to be confident in their thoughts are, to me, very important traits because I feel they are so rare in our society. It's not often that people have the chance to speak their mind, and even when they do have the chance, many people still don't. I feel that because people aren't honest, we encounter problems in both our personal and professional lives. I also feel confidence is deeply rooted in honesty because you have to be confident to actually get out of you comfort zone and speak up for yourself.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?The funniest thing that ever happened to me was in elementary school, I once made one of my friends shoot juice out of his nose. Until that point in my life, I had no idea that doing such a thing was possible. I mean I'd always heard it was, but I never took it as anything more than anecdotal evidence. We were sitting at lunch, talking, and I said a joke, although I'm not exactly sure. The details of the joke don't matter as much as what happened next I suppose, my joke being much less funny than the torrent of juice soon to be shot onto the table. I'm still not sure of the specific physics behind such an event as this, but whatever the cause, natural or not, it happened. My friend had just taken a large gulp of some juice, when I said my line. At that instant, a plume of the aforementioned juice exploded from his nose (not unlike a majestic whale breaching the surface of some tranquil sea) doused the table, eliciting cheers from nearly the entire cafeteria. Needless to say, lunch was never the same.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would like to spend a few months traveling around the United States and Canada on a road trip, while visiting as many National and State parks as possible. I'd love to see the Grand Canyon and some of the deserts in Nevada, as well as visiting the Yukon territories and some of the very old woodlands in the Northwest. I would also plan to camp out as much as possible, and spend a lot of time hiking, fishing, and hunting.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?If I ever have children I hope that they have a respect for the outdoors and animals, and that they are kind and caring human beings. I want them to have a sense of adventure and curiosity for our world that extends far into adulthood.
