What is your most memorable childhood experience?

My paper route was my most memorable childhood experience. For four years I delivered newspapers, walking my route every day of the week, rain snow or shine, every week of the year.

What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?

All of my family is close, but I most closely identify with my father. He and I are the only males in the immediate family and we have similar senses of humor and points of view. He and I simply see things a little differently than my mother and sisters do.

What character traits do you admire in an individual?

I know people who have a sharp, critical mind but tend to be cynical in their approach to life. I admire people who are discerning yet still maintain a positive, optimistic point of view. I also admire those who are willing to be creative and take chances in life rather than being content sitting in the crowd and criticizing.

What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?

While on my way to a weekend of skiing, I got caught in a snowstorm. I thought I was close to my destination, but the conditions and visibility became so bad I could no longer risk driving. I pulled off the road and spent the night in the ditch, wearing two coats in a feeble attempt to stay warm. The weather cleared by the next morning and as I pulled onto the road I noticed a mailbox less than fifty yards away. Sure enough, it belonged to my hosts, making my night in the cold ditch totally unnecessary.

If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?

I have always wanted to visit both Athens and Rome. I've studied and admired Greek and Latin culture, including history, mythology, philosophy, government and language. I would like to travel to Greece and Italy to see the Parthenon, Coliseum, and the other old architecture in person and better appreciate the former civilizations.

When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?

If and when I have children, I hope to pass onto them my values, faith, sense of humor, a positive outlook on life, and confidence and assurance in who they are.
