Becoming a Donor

Thank you for inquiring about becoming a sperm donor for the Fairfax Cryobank's Anonymous Semen Donor Program. The following text will provide you with an overview of the donor program and how to apply. If you have further questions, please E-mail us at the appropriate address below.

Fairfax Cryobank was established in 1986 and provides infertile patients with anonymous donor semen in the United States and many foreign countries. We are currently seeking healthy college educated men of all backgrounds between the ages of 18 - 39. This program requires a six month commitment and each donor is expected to produce one specimen per week on site, therefore you must live or work near one of our facilities.

We are currently accepting applicants at the following facilities. Please E-mail the appropriate Fairfax Cryobank location and provide the following information: your name, address, and how you heard about Fairfax Cryobank so that a link to an online application can be sent to you.

The sperm donation hours are Monday - Friday from 7:30 - 1:30 PM, with additional early morning, evening, and weekend hours in some facilities.

Step 1:

Request a Donor Applicant Questionnaire. Please E-mail the appropriate Fairfax Cryobank location and provide the following information: your name, address, and how you heard about Fairfax Cryobank so that a link to an online application can be sent to you.

Step 2:

If you qualify, the laboratory supervisor will contact you for an interview. The interview is the first part of the screening process, which can be completed in four weeks. Interviews are conducted Monday - Fridays between 8:00 AM - 12:00 Noon. At the time of the interview, the laboratory supervisor will review your application with you, explain the anonymous donor program in its entirety, answer any questions you may have, and ask you to produce a specimen.

Step 3:

The next part of the screening process involves evaluating your sperm quality. You will be asked to produce three to four sperm specimens for evaluation of both fresh sperm quality and cryo-survivability.

Step 4:

If the applicant's semen quality passes our strict standards, then medical and infectious disease testing will be performed.. The donor applicant is required to give blood, urine, and sperm specimens for the genetic and infectious disease testing. In addition, a general physical examination will be completed. It takes approximately three weeks before the results are received on the submitted specimens. Once the final results are reported and all results are negative, the applicant will be accepted into the program and be asked to start donating on a regular basis as an active donor.

Being a Donor:

The first specimen produced as an active donor will be considered your official start date and your six month commitment will begin from this date. At the end of your six month commitment, you will be reassessed as a donor. If for some reason you chose to stop donating or were asked to stop donating, this would be considered your official stop date. You will be required to provide blood samples at three months and six months from your official stop date in order to release quarantined doses. Each dose that is produced and inventoried for distribution at Fairfax Cryobank is quarantined for six months.

Fairfax Cryobank is dedicated to cryopreserving anonymous donor sperm for infertile patients. Although most donors choose to remain anonymous, we have recently started a program called ID Consent where offspring will be offered the opportunity to contact their sperm donor when they reach 18 years of age.  Donors accepted into the program will be asked if they would like to be part of this new program.  It is strictly a voluntary choice. You may select to remain in the anonymous donor program only. We are very committed to our donors and require the same commitment from them. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your interest in the conception of healthy babies by participating as a sperm donor.
